What Is Proofreading?
Proofreading is the final stage of editing. It involves correcting grammatical errors and eliminating spelling errors. Your job is not about moving paragraphs or rewriting sentences.
Online proofreading jobs are in high demand whether you want to work for a company or freelance on your own.
Can I Earn A Full-Time Income?
Absolutely! According to Glassdoor, a proofreader’s average annual salary is $45,000 with a range of $32k to $65k.
You are in charge of your success and how much you make depends on how hard you work. You can work just a few hours on the weekends or 60 hours a week or set a price of a certain project (i.e. proofread a book). It’s all up to you.
How To Become A Proofreader?
Here is the good part. You don’t need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a degree or to see if proofreading is even for you. However, you do need to have a strong command of the English language and the right resources to help you get started.
Caitlin over at Proofread Anywhere has a popular proofreading course with over 4,800 students that are now making money working from home.
If you’re like me, then you don’t want to pay for anything before doing your own extensive research to make sure it’s even worth the time or money.

Free Proofreading Tools
One of my favorite FREE tools to use for my blog is Grammarly. Just install it on your desktop and it will automatically pick up grammatical mistakes as you type.
Grammarly does not fix your sentence structure though – so you still have to do some work. But it would help greatly as you proofread. There is also a paid version, but I’ve been using the free version for over a year now.
Want to earn a quick $25 with Grammarly? Write a short paragraph reviewing their product after you’ve installed and used it. Easiest $25 I’ve ever earned.
